GoEvents work with many charities on a variety of events from fundays to balls, providing them the ultimate assistants at a low cost fee. We work with Liverpool Mencap on several events over past couple of years and most recent event was one of their biggest fundraising event Liverpool Idol.
For several months we have been meeting with Kevin Byrne who is the fundraising manager from Mencap Liverpool to discuss the Liverpool Idol, batter new ideas around and what was needed for the event.
For this event we was able to help and arrange the AV (Audio, Lighting, Production and Sound), illuminated letters, trophies, assisting with contestants, assisting with judges and voting app.
We had meetings with the host of the event who was Claire Simmo from RadioCity2 to go through the running order of the event.
The week of the event we collected the trophies and the programmes so Kevin could concentrate on their members, the groups they run while we done all the running round and contacting the different suppliers to confirm times.
Week of the event ourselves, Kevin and AV company (UK Events Group) had a site meeting with Shankly Hotel and staff to the finalise details and to show the AV company the set up of the production.
Day of the event the team got to the venue for 4pm and AV company was at the venue at the arranged time to start set up to be ready for sound checks, ensure the visual presentation was correct. We liaised with the duty manager regarding the Laurent Perrier suite which was being used for changing area for the contestants and what had been agreed the previous day that hadn't been done.
When Kevin arrived the room looked amazing and was ready for sound checks to start, contestants was beginning to arrive and the live band was setting up with the aid of the technician. As we all had our own roles and responsibilities for different parts of the event likes of Sarah from GoEvents was looking after the contestants and took them to the suite and when they were ready to bring them up for sound checks, David from GoEvents was looking after the judges as they arrived and Kevin was looking after the Mencap Liverpool members and sponsors for the event.
The event had an extra judge this year in the form of Leon Lopez who will be known from his time in Brookside and most recently Eastenders, he was a great addition to the judging panel alongside Steve Macfarlane, Lynn Daniels and Brian Nash.
Once the show had started the GoEvents team kept in contact with the duty manager and dealing with any issues if they came up but also making sure the running of the event ran smoothly and the clients were happy.
Claire Simmo was a fantastic host who kept the show run on track. The judges were lovely to all of the contestants and gave positive and constructive feedback to them and the contestants were amazing and at a high standard.
The audience dug deep in their pockets for raffle tickets, voting for their favourite contestant on the app for their public choice. Judges choice went to Charlotte Brackley who was sponsored by Hill Dickinson and the people's choice was the youngest contestant Nicole Richardson who was sponsored by friends & family – well done to both winners you really did deserve it. Public choice winners from Liverpool Idol 2016 performed and had everyone up dancing and then the live band performed a set at the end.
It was a fantastic night with over £9000 raised for Mencap Liverpool. Thank you to the main sponsors Brown Turner Ross and Hill Dickinson for their support and to all the other sponsors.
Once the show had finished the GoEvents team helped to pack down the different aspects of the event from lights, to letters and ensured the tables were cleared and the suite was empty. The team left at around 12.30am after a great event and everyone enjoyed themselves and a great amount was raised for Liverpool Idol.
We’d like to thank Mencap Liverpool for having us apart of the event and we look forward to working with you on the next event.
